About the Role
3 Keys Literary Agency is seeking a motivated, entrepreneurial Literary Agent to join our independent, full-service team. This role is ideal for someone with strong industry knowledge, a sharp eye for market trends, and a passion for championing authors across genres. You’ll work directly with authors to develop their careers, place projects with publishers, and manage client relationships.

Responsibilities
  • Build and manage a client list of authors across fiction, nonfiction, or both.
  • Identify, evaluate, and acquire new talent with strong publishing potential.
  • Negotiate book deals, contracts, and subsidiary rights (in collaboration with our in-house teams).
  • Provide hands-on editorial and career guidance to clients.
  • Network with editors, publishers, scouts, and co-agents at book fairs and industry events.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across global licensing, media rights, estate representation, and illustration divisions.

Qualifications
  • Previous experience in publishing, agenting, or a related literary field strongly preferred.
  • Strong editorial judgment and knowledge of current publishing trends.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and ability to work independently.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and representing a wide range of voices.

Junior / Assistant Literary Agent

Junior / Assistant Literary Agent

About the Role

3 Keys Literary Agency is seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Junior / Assistant Literary Agent to support senior agents while beginning to develop their own client list. This is an excellent entry point for those with a strong interest in publishing, editorial work, or rights management who want to build a long-term career in agenting.
You will gain hands-on experience across all aspects of the business, from reviewing queries and manuscripts to preparing submissions and supporting contract negotiations. Over time, you’ll be encouraged to seek out your own authors and establish yourself as an agent under the 3 Keys banner.

Responsibilities
  • Review and evaluate incoming queries and manuscripts.
  • Provide editorial feedback and notes for client projects.
  • Assist with submissions to editors and track responses.
  • Support agents with contract review, deal tracking, and client communication.
  • Research market trends, publishers, and editors to identify opportunities.
  • Attend industry events, conferences, and fairs to build relationships and experience.
  • Over time, begin scouting and signing clients of your own with agency support.

Qualifications
  • Some experience in publishing, editing, or literary-related work preferred (internships count).
  • Strong editorial eye and writing skills.
  • Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks at once.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A demonstrated passion for books and storytelling across genres.
